Applications Now Being Accepted for 6-Week Summer Intensive
Applications are now being accepted for a 6-week Intensive to explore the uses of
improvisation, both movement-based and text-based, as a creative tool for the actor, as
well as in the service of creating original theatre. The improvisational work of Viola Spolin
and the movement improvisational work of her sister, Beatrice Lees, will be used as both a
foundation and jumping off point for the course. Additionally, the course will draw from a
variety of performance techniques, including Paul Sills’ Story Theatre, working toward the
creation of the class’ culminating performance.
The class is a unique performance opportunity combined with training and working with the
distinctive approach to theatre-making developed by Exhibit A Performance Group. Each
week, students will gain invaluable skills and tools for the actor to use in any theatrical
setting. The final project/public performance will be an actor-driven performance created in
collaboration with director K Tanzer and playwright/actor Kathy Hendrickson.
This Intensive is appropriate for, and open to, all levels of experience.
